Mate Coliving is a community coliving in Amantea, a seaside town in Calabria, Southern Italy.
An intimate coliving for remote workers, freelancers, creatives and professionals who want to spend a few weeks living by the sea, working comfortably and sharing everyday life with a small international community.
We keep the group small, with a maximum of around 10 people, so it feels more like living with a group of mates than staying in a big coliving. 🫶
📍 The location
We are in the center of Amantea, just 100 meters from the beach 🏖️ and around 200 meters from the town's main street.
Cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, gyms and shops are all within walking distance, and Amantea train station is about a 10-minute walk away. You don't need a car for everyday life.
✈️ The closest airport is Lamezia Terme International Airport, around 25 minutes away.
Amantea is also a great base for discovering Calabria, with places like Tropea, Pizzo, Scilla, the Sila mountains and many smaller coastal towns and villages within reach.

The property has 8 rooms, most of them spacious private rooms with their own ensuite bathroom, balcony and desk.
There is also a shared twin room and a mini-studio with its own kitchen.

Mate is designed for people who are actually working during their stay.
There is reliable Wi-Fi throughout the property and a dedicated coworking area with ergonomic chairs. Every private room also has its own desk, which is particularly useful for calls or when you need more privacy.
The atmosphere during working hours is generally quiet, while mornings, evenings and weekends are when the community comes together.
## 🫂 Community life
The community is at the center of the experience.
Most of our Mates are in their 30s and 40s and come alone, although couples are welcome too. You'll meet a mix of remote employees, freelancers, founders, writers, creatives and people simply taking some time away from city life.
A Community Lead lives on-site and helps bring the group together and organize the week.

## ☀️ A slower side of Southern Italy
One of the reasons we chose Calabria is the lifestyle.
Especially in spring and autumn, Amantea is much quieter than during the Italian summer. You get the sea, mild weather and local life without the crowds of peak season.
It's a good place if you want to work, meet new people and explore Southern Italy, but also have enough time and space to slow down.
You can finish work and walk to the beach, have an aperitivo with the group, cook dinner together or simply spend the evening on the rooftop watching the sunset. 🌅
## 🗓️ Stays
The minimum stay is 2 weeks, with the option to stay for a month or longer depending on the season.
Mate Coliving Amantea currently opens during the shoulder season, typically in autumn and spring, when we think Calabria is at its best for this kind of experience.
If you're looking for a small community, a comfortable work setup, local experiences and a few weeks of life by the sea in Southern Italy, you'll fit right in. 💛
About the owners
Mate was founded by Federica and David, an Italian-Argentinian couple who share a passion for travel, community and bringing people together.
After years of working corporate jobs and remotely, we created Mate around a simple idea: working remotely gives you freedom to be anywhere, but where you are and especially who you share that time with, can completely change the experience.
🌍 Since 2025, we've been bringing together small international groups for workations and coliving experiences across different destinations.
Calabria is particularly special to us. Federica is originally from the area, so this is not just another destination we picked on a map. We know the region, the people and the places, and we want our Mates to experience the more authentic side of Southern Italy: from the food and small towns to the beaches, mountains and local everyday life.
We're on-site, and also our Community Lead lives at the coliving and takes care of the community day-to-day. And we're always around behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly. 😊
For us, Mate is about creating the kind of place we'd want to stay ourselves: small, personal, easy-going and full of good people. 🫶

- How do I do groceries?
- Everything you need is within walking distance. There are supermarkets, small grocery stores, bakeries and local shops just a few minutes from the coliving, so you don't need a car. We have a shared kitchen where you can store and prepare your own food, and we often cook and have meals together as a community too. 🍝
- What are the coworking opening hours?
- There are no fixed opening hours, you can work whenever you need to. We have a dedicated coworking area with Wi-Fi and ergonomic chairs, and every private room also has its own desk, which is ideal for calls or when you need more privacy.
- What is the policy on pets? Are there any restrictions, fees or rules?
- Unfortunately, pets are not allowed at the property.
- How do I get there?
- The closest airport is Lamezia Terme International Airport (SUF), around 25 minutes from Amantea. Amantea also has its own train station, around a 10-minute walk from the coliving, with connections to the rest of Calabria and Italy. From Lamezia Terme Airport, you can reach us by train and bus (directly) or arrange a transfer/taxi. Once you're here, you don't need a car for everyday life: the beach, supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, shops and town center are all within walking distance. 🚶
- What is included?
- Your stay includes accommodation, utilities, Wi-Fi, access to the coworking and common areas, shared kitchen, free washing machine, weekly cleaning and linen change, and access to our terraces and rooftop. You'll also have an on-site Community Lead and a calendar of community activities throughout the week. 🫶 Most community activities are included. For activities involving external providers or costs (such as padel courts, restaurants or transportation for some weekend trips) everyone simply covers or splits the additional cost.
- Why did you decide to open?
- Mate started from our own experience of working remotely and travelling. We loved the freedom of being able to work from different places, but we realized that the destination itself was only part of what made an experience memorable. The people you meet, the routines you create together and feeling part of a community make a huge difference. That's why we created Mate: to bring together small groups of people who want to keep working while experiencing a new place and building real connections along the way. Amantea was a natural choice for our first seasonal coliving. Federica is from the area, we know Calabria deeply, and we wanted to show people a side of Southern Italy that is still very local and authentic, especially outside the busy summer months. ☀️
- How do you manage the community?
- We intentionally keep the community small, with a maximum of around 10 people. A Community Lead lives on-site and is there to connect the group, welcome new Mates and organize activities throughout the week, from dinners, aperitivos and yoga to padel, beach time and weekend adventures. We also make a point of connecting with local people and businesses, so Mates can experience Amantea through the people who live there, not just as visitors, but as part of the local community. The weekly schedule is flexible and is also shaped around the people staying with us and what they feel like doing. Nothing is mandatory. You can join as much as you want, have your own plans or simply enjoy some time alone. The idea is to make connecting with others easy and natural, rather than forcing it through a packed schedule. 😊
