About the owners
I’m Luísa Magalhães, the founder and creative mind behind Caminho Coliving. My personal experience with remote work and nomadic living inspired me to create a space where people can feel at home, even when they are far away from their country of origin.
I care deeply about well-being, community living, and the small details that make a meaningful difference. I stay closely involved in our residents’ experiences, ensuring that Caminho remains a welcoming, human, and authentic place.
For me, Caminho is more than a project, it is an extension of the values I believe in: creativity, presence, and community.

- How do I do groceries?
- There is a small minimarket with everyday essentials just a five-minute walk from Caminho Coliving, as well as several other local minimarkets in the nearby streets. For a wider selection, there is a large supermarket around 15 minutes away. We also have the city market, where you can find fresh local products, and from time to time we organise group visits there. Whenever possible, we also go grocery shopping together by car, making it easier and more social. You will have your own storage space in the shared kitchen, as well as access to the fridge, freezer, and all the basic equipment you need to prepare your meals
- What are the coworking opening hours?
- The coworking space is open 24/7 for Caminho Coliving residents, so you can work whenever it best suits your schedule.
- What is the policy on pets? Are there any restrictions, fees or rules?
- Pets are welcome! May be accepted on a case-by-case basis and must always be approved before booking. Caminho Coliving already has a community dog, Flor, so we need to make sure that any visiting pet is compatible with her and comfortable in a shared community environment. Acceptance depends on factors such as the type, size, temperament and needs of the animal, as well as the comfort and safety of the other residents. Specific rules, restrictions and any possible additional fees will be discussed and agreed upon individually before the stay. Pet owners are responsible for their animal’s behaviour, hygiene, supervision and for preventing any damage or disturbance in the house.
- How do I get there?
- Caminho Coliving is located in Maia, close to Porto and Porto Airport. By car, we are approximately 10 minutes from Porto Airport and around 20 minutes from Porto city centre, depending on traffic. By public transport, the nearest metro stations are Mandim and Zona Industrial, around a 15-minute walk away. From there, you can reach Porto city centre by metro in approximately 30 minutes. There is also a bus stop called Guarda, served by bus 604, around a five-minute walk from the house. Before your arrival, we will send you the full address, directions and check-in information to help you find the house easily.
- What is included?
- Your stay at Caminho Coliving includes: A private furnished room; High-speed fibre internet; 24/7 access to the coworking space; Access to the shared kitchen, living and dining areas; Access to the garden and wellbeing room; Laundry facilities; Bed linen; Weekly cleaning of the shared areas; Your own storage space in the kitchen, fridge and freezer; Access to our community activities, including the weekly community dinner and “Day of” creative activities. For community dinners, the cost of the ingredients is shared between the participants when necessary. Private room cleaning is not included, but it can be requested as an additional service for an extra cust.
- Why did you decide to open?
- I grew up in a small village in the north of Portugal, where almost half of the population is part of my family. Community was always a natural part of everyday life: people knew each other, helped one another and shared both ordinary and important moments. When I began travelling and experiencing remote and nomadic life, I deeply missed that sense of belonging. That was one of the reasons I enjoyed staying in colivings: they gave me the opportunity to meet people, share experiences and feel part of a community, even when I was far from home. This experience inspired me to create Caminho Coliving. I wanted to build more than a place to stay, a welcoming and human space where people could live, work, create and form meaningful relationships. Creativity and art are at the heart of Caminho. Through our atelier, workshops, artistic residencies, community activities and spontaneous creative moments, I want people to have the freedom to explore new ideas, express themselves and share their knowledge and talents with others. I also wanted Caminho to be connected to the place where it exists. It is important to me that residents have opportunities to meet local people, support local artists and businesses, and contribute positively to the surrounding community. At the same time, I love sharing Portuguese culture, traditions, food and everyday life with people arriving from different parts of the world.
- How do you manage the community?
- I manage the community by creating a balance between structure and spontaneity. I want residents to feel welcomed, supported and included, while still having the freedom to enjoy their own routines and personal space. We organise regular community moments, such as weekly dinners, creative activities, workshops and our “Day of” experiences, where we do something different together each week. Residents are also encouraged to suggest activities, share their skills or organise something they would enjoy doing with the group. Communication is an important part of community life. We use a WhatsApp group to share practical information, make plans and invite residents to spontaneous activities. I also stay closely involved in the house, checking in with residents and helping with any questions, needs or challenges that may arise. At the same time, participation is always optional. There is no pressure to join every activity. Everyone can choose how involved they want to be, and we respect different personalities, working schedules and social needs. We also have clear house guidelines to support respectful shared living, including quiet hours, shared-space responsibilities and open communication when something needs to be discussed.
