Living and Working in Lisbon: Inside a Community-Driven Coliving House

Lisbon has quietly become one of the most loved cities for digital nomads and remote workers.

People arrive for a few weeks, curious about the tile buildings, the light, the slower rhythm of the city. And very often, they end up staying much longer than planned.

Somewhere in the historic center of Lisbon, between narrow streets, good cafés and beautiful viewpoints overlooking the river,  sits samesame, a coliving community built around a simple idea:

Living in a city should feel human. And there are so many good ways to explore it.

Not like a hotel.
Not like a hostel.
But like a house that actually feels lived in.

A Coliving space in the heart of Lisbon

One of the things people love most about Lisbon is how walkable it is.

From the front door of samesame, most of the city is just a short walk away:
A morning coffee around the corner.
Some of Lisbon’s best viewpoints five minutes away, alongside iconic landmarks and hidden spots. And the Tagus River just down the hill.

Being based in the historic center means life happens naturally between work and exploration.

Many of the people staying here are remote workers, freelancers, entrepreneurs, designers and creatives who chose Lisbon as a temporary base.

Mornings often begin in the coworking space downstairs.
Afternoons drift into city walks, workouts, sunsets or simply enjoying the sunlight that Lisbon is known for.

Work and life blend naturally.

Community Living Without Forcing It

Many coliving spaces talk about community.

At samesame, we try not to over-design it.

There are no mandatory activities or rigid schedules.
Instead, the house creates the conditions for people to connect naturally. Someone starts cooking dinner and a few others join.
A message appears in the house chat about a padel match.
A group decides to go surfing when the forecast looks good.

Yoga sessions, movie nights, day trips, slow Sundays.

Every activity is decided together (and you decide to join or not).

Nothing forced.
But somehow something always happens.

Who Stays at samesame

Since 2018, samesame has hosted people from all over the world who come to Lisbon to live and work remotely.

Most guests stay anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

The community usually includes people working in:

• tech
• design
• marketing and creative industries
• startups and entrepreneurship
• independent and remote careers

People between their late 20s and mid 30s, often in between chapters of life, exploring the freedom that remote work makes possible.

And many of them come back (we love that.).

A Different Way to Experience Lisbon

Lisbon is one of those cities where everyday life can feel special.

Lisbon changes with the seasons.

Summer brings street parties, music festivals, and the smell of grilled sardines filling the streets.

Winter leans into culture, art, conferences and innovation gatherings, like Web Summit and Lisbon’s growing tech scene.

Living here (even just for a while)   feels different when you’re sharing the experience with others.

That’s what samesame tries to offer.

Two coliving buildings in Lisbon where people can work, explore the city and share a moment of life together.

Urban living, softly community-driven.

If Lisbon is on your radar as a place to live and work remotely, you now know where to find us.
