When a coliver books through Mapmelon, there are two separate payments:
At checkout, Mapmelon charges a booking fee equal to 10% of the total booking amount (the “Mapmelon Fee”).
After the booking is confirmed, the coliving collects the rest of the payment directly from the guest.
The coliving decides how and when to charge it, for example:
Mapmelon does not collect the remaining balance.
Guests can cancel their booking from the booking page, based on the cancellation policy chosen by the coliving.
Where the coliving sets this:
Listing > Booking > Settings
The coliving can also cancel a booking from the booking page.
Bookings on Mapmelon are auto-confirmed at the moment the guest books, which is why colivings are responsible for keeping their availability, length-of-stay rules, and pricing accurate and synchronized (typically via iCal, Channel Manager, or PMS).
If a coliving cancels a confirmed booking because of a host-controlled inaccuracy — namely:
then:
Mapmelon issues a Stripe payment link to collect the Host Cancellation Fee; the coliving has 48 hours to pay, after which the guest is refunded.
Repeated host-controlled cancellations may lead to delisting from Mapmelon and, where applicable, a re-listing fee.
If the coliving offers an acceptable alternative (e.g. different dates or accommodation) and the guest explicitly agrees in writing without paying more than originally agreed, the Host Cancellation Fee may be waived at Mapmelon's discretion.
