At Colivers Club, we’ve been diving deep into an exciting conversation about the pros and cons of rural versus urban colivings. The community has shared some great insights into what attracts people to these spaces, the unique challenges they face, and how urban colivings can incorporate nature into their environments.
One of the most talked-about topics is tropical vibes. As one member pointed out, nature, weather, and outdoor activities are the main draws of rural colivings. However, they also highlighted the challenge of transportation, with remote locations often making it difficult for colivers to reach the coliving space. On the urban side, they admitted that while you can add some plants, cities like Paris or Madrid are not ideal for those craving nature. Plus, urban living tends to be pricier!
Another member shared that places like Mexico City and Medellín offer the perfect mix: access to beautiful parks for that “quick nature fix,” and the possibility of organizing weekend hikes or camping trips just outside the city. For them, these cities strike the right balance between nature and urban living.
Groceries also came up as a big challenge for rural colivings. Depending on how remote the coliving is, it can be tricky for both the coliving and its colivers to regularly access supermarkets. But as one member pointed out, some rural colivings make this easier through shared meals or regular grocery trips.
The conversation also touched on small towns, which, as one member put it, are in a category of their own. Small town colivings offer a blend of community and autonomy that appeals to colivers who enjoy events-based community building, while still offering a peaceful, rural atmosphere.
