Make Cuenca your city, not just your address.
Nomad Pioneers brings remote workers, founders and creators to Cuenca, Ecuador, from 15 December 2026 to 15 March 2027. You choose your own apartment and your own workspace, and the community is built around the city rather than around one house. Join for the first month, or stay the full three.
Most of what you find on Mapmelon is a house. You book a room and the community arrives with the walls: the same kitchen, the same coworking table, the same faces at breakfast. It works, and it is why coliving spread the way it did.
This is the other arrangement. You keep control of where you live, what you pay for it and how your week runs, and the programme takes care of the part that is genuinely hard to arrange alone: knowing people in a city where you arrived as a stranger.
What the season organises
- Shared meals through the week, so there is always somewhere to turn up.
- Coworking sessions with the rest of the group, in cafes and spaces around the city.
- Skill swaps between people who are building very different things.
- Introductions to locals, which is the part almost nobody manages on their own.
- City events, and optional trips into the Andes at weekends.
Why the split matters
Three months is a long time to live under someone else's house rules. A coliving is a wonderful two weeks and a more demanding twelfth week, especially if you work odd hours, travel with a partner, cook for yourself, or want a door that closes on a quiet room.
Renting alone has the opposite problem. The apartment is exactly what you wanted and the calendar is empty, and by week three the best conversation of your day has been with a barista.
Nomad Pioneers takes the second route and adds what is missing from it.
Why Cuenca
Cuenca sits in the southern Ecuadorian Andes. The historic centre is small enough to cross on foot, there are rivers with paths along them, markets that locals actually shop in, a real cultural calendar, and mountains close enough for a weekend. December to March is a good stretch to be there if you are leaving a northern winter behind.
Who it suits
- Anyone who wants more than a fortnight in one place.
- People who have done coliving, loved the company, and want their own kitchen back.
- Couples, night owls, and anyone whose week does not fit a shared house schedule.
- Anyone who would rather choose their own rent than have it bundled into a package.
If what you want is to walk downstairs and find everyone already at breakfast, a coliving is still the better answer, and there are plenty of those on Mapmelon.

Price: $599 if you book before 30 September. After that, the price goes up.
Accommodation and coworking are booked separately, by you, wherever in the city suits you.
