Cyprus is a really nice country to work remotely from. It has nice beaches and the weather is also quiet sunny ☀️ (even in February!)
I spent a month at To Hani coliving in Cyprus and here are some infos that might be useful for you, if you ever want to visit :)
Location
To Hani is situated in the outskirts of Limassol, in Paramytha village, 12km from Limassol city. To Hani historically used to be a travellers inn, then became a tavern and after a cookery school. The remains of the cookery school are still there: There are 2 cooking islands with 4 stoves that can be used. If you like cooking, it's the perfect place for you! There are several taverns in the village, and one just across the street from To Hani, a kiosk with the very basics at walking distance. People usually go grocery shopping and cook their lunch/dinner at To Hani. The space has a huge yard. The highlight is the hammock under a lemon tree. You can also decide to work outside if you the weather is nice.
Arrival
If you don't want to rent a car:
You can get picked up at any of the 2 airports for 40EUR or choose to get picked up at Limassol. The cheapest option from the Airport to Limassol is the Limassol Airport Express. It costs 10EUR.
Transportation
Paramythra is a small village and the only (realisitc) way to get out of Paramyhra is by car. Some people rented a car others decided not to. It's up to you. The only other way (i know) to get to Limassol is by using Bolt (something like Uber). From Limassol to To Hani, Bolt is around 18EUR and then 25EUR If it’s from To Hani to Limassol. I didn't rent a car, but i heard that it is around 15-20 EUR per day. Bear in mind that Cyprus is one of the few countries that have left-hand traffic.
Staff
To Hani is run by Christy and the community host Silver. They are both very kind and helpful and get never tired of questions. They also participate occasionally in community events. Both are very helpful and can provide information about activities around the island. They also live at To Hani and it's their home and they also try their best to make you feel at home.
Accommodation
My room had an ensuite bathroom and the furniture in my room consisted of a double bed, a desk, a drawer, a full lenght mirror and a clothes rail with hangers. There is also an A/C, but there was no need to use it in March. The Plugs in Cyprus are the same as in the UK, known as Type G. To Hani provides one adaptor for each guest. If you need more: don't forget to bring your travel adaptor. Each room also has it's own wifi adapter, so there should be no problem to receive signal in your room.
Coworking
The Coworking Space is an open space next to the kitchen. There is no special meeting rooms or boxes to take calls. It has desk-space for about 6-8 People. Usually, that's enough. Not all guests are working at the same time or place. Some people also decided to work in their rooms or outside. There is (only) one monitor that can be used. The internet is fast and i had never issues with the connection. (88 Mbps Down and 10 Mbps Up).
Coliving/Community
Your experience might be totally different, depending on the people that live at To Hani at that time. The only fixed meeting is the "Community Calendar", where the guests sit together for an hour and decide what do to in the upcoming weeks. Everyone can share what they want to do and then decide together. This can be hikes, going to the beach together or just have a family dinner. There is also a Skillshare session, once a week. Taking part in the activities is recommended, but of course not mandatory. Sometimes only 3 people participated, other times all guests went together for a hike or have a meal in a tavern. The communication happens in Slack or you'll meet the people in the kitchen. You will get an invite, once you join.
Summary
I really liked my stay at To Hani and my expectations were met. I was in one coliving before (SunDesk in Morocco) and i can totally recommend to spend a month or two at To Hani. Christy and Silver do an excellent job at making you feel at home and it will never get boring. There is always something going on. If you like being part of a community and you like to escape the hustle and bustle of a city and enjoy being in nature: To Hani is for you.
