So, if you're considering a trip to Bansko, here's a concise guide with all you need to know.
Location📍
Bansko offers exceptional stunning landscapes, located at the foot of the Pirin Mountains in Southwest Bulgaria, it's a haven for nature lovers.
Notably, it's recognized for the high-altitude Vihren Peak, characterized by its forested ridges and captivating glacial lakes.
Arrival 🛬
To reach Bansko, you have several options after landing at Sofia Airport.
If you prefer public transportation, you can take the metro from Terminal 2, which costs 1 euro and takes about 40 minutes.
Another option is to take a taxi for 10 euros that should get you to the city center in around 15 minutes.
If you take the metro, disembark at the Serdika stop and then it's a 10-minute walk to the bus station. There, you can buy a ticket for Bansko. The bus ride takes between 2 to 3 hours, including a 10-minute stop at a gas station.
Alternatively, you might consider renting a car for 10 euros per day. This option provides more flexibility and allows you to enjoy a scenic 2-hour drive to Bansko. A bonus is the opportunity to stop at the historic Rila Monastery along the way.
Transportation 🚗
While in Bansko, a car isn't necessary for day-to-day activities, but it could be useful for exploring the surrounding areas such as hot springs, hiking trails, and more. In the coworking or coliving communities, you'll often find others with cars. Alternatively, you can rely on taxis to get around.
Public transportation options are limited with no metro service and few bus lines, so walking tends to be the primary mode of transportation. For a change of pace, consider renting a bike.

Bansko offers various accommodation options, catering to different needs. With a vibrant coworking community in place, many digital nomads prefer to rent apartments, with prices ranging from 300 to 500 euros per month.
We opted for Avalon Coliving, where monthly rates fall between 400 and 600 euros. This nomadic coliving space, managed by @@@jamesavalon and Dani, was formerly a hotel, so the rooms are spacious and include private bathrooms. The standout feature is its industrial kitchen, perfect for preparing your favorite meals, and a large dining room where you can eat, work, and socialize. Bansko Coworking, (orange), provides three different locations. As the pioneer of coworking spaces in Bansko, they've been instrumental in cultivating the nomad community from the ground up. Their community is particularly active, with a plethora of weekly social activities ranging from Friday BBQs and Capoeira classes to skill-sharing sessions and trips to the hot springs.
Alt Coworking, (blue), also boasts three locations. Alt strikes a harmonious balance between work and leisure, offering all the amenities necessary to fulfill your work commitments while also organizing enjoyable activities like BBQs, skill-sharing sessions, and hikes.
Nestwork is a premium coworking brand offering two locations. Their focus lies predominantly on productivity and networking, making it an excellent choice for those keen on building professional connections.

Community 🌍
Bansko is home to several nomad communities, each with its own way of coordinating activities and events.
Coworking Bansko has both a public and private Facebook group for members to connect and communicate.
Alt Coworking maintains a Facebook group, uses an internal tool for community management, and posts most of its activities on Instagram for wider visibility.
Avalon Coliving manages a WhatsApp group for residents and also hosts a Facebook group open to everyone. This allows non-residents to join in on some of their events.
