About Cobana

Welcome to Cobana! The story of Cobana is a story of people who are passionate about exploring the unknown. People who dare to question their assumptions and challenge the status quo. People who believe in the power of diversity and seek to build bridges and collaborations towards a sustainable global society. Cobana is a place where these stories meet, in the beautiful Transylvanian mountains. What does that mean practically? Inspired by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's research, Cobana creates an environment where residents can attain the Flow State - a psychological state where a person is fully immersed in an activity, experiencing a sense of focus and enjoyment in the process. With high-speed internet and weekly cleanings, Cobana eliminates distractions and mundane tasks, allowing residents to stay in the flow. Beyond just a work retreat, Cobana encompasses a philosophy of sustainability, community and personal growth, making it a beacon for those seeking to merge productivity with exploration and well-being. As Cobana runs a host in residence program, research and art to explore a path towards a sustainable global society is part of the dynamics. Small rituals like the weekly house meeting and the house BBQ are the starting point of many joint adventures in the beautiful mountains of Transylvania, forging new collaborations and friendships. Join the Cobana community and unlock your full potential.

Frequently asked questions about Cobana

Can’t find the answer you’re looking for? Just ask for it

How do I do groceries?
Only 10 minutes walking from the house, there is a big german supermarket together with some small local shops. A bit further in that street there is a bakery, butcher, a pharmacy and even a hospital.
What are the coworking opening hours?
The coworking is open when you need it and is next to the lounge with a fireplace. While a lot of the socialising is happening in the kitchen, we regularly gather around the fireplace for joint activities like skillsharing, hotseat sessions, board games, or just watching a movie.
What is the policy on pets? Are there any restrictions, fees or rules?
The big boss and longest resident in the house is Mitza the cat who loves people and doesn't allow other animals. In case there is a cat with allergies, Mitza doesn't mind to catch up with the guests in the garden or on the terrace. She lives in the heating room next to the garage.
How do I get there?
You can reach Brasov by train from many European cities. By air you can fly to Brasov directly or land in Bucharest or Sibiu from where you take one of the many shuttle sevices.
What is included?
The house is recently renovated which means that all the spaces are fresh and newly furnished. All our rooms are equipped with a big bed, a workstation and an ensuite bathroom. All the rooms except the Tiny Room have also a reading chair. Downstairs there is the coworking, the lounge with fireplace and the shared kitchen. In the attic there is also a focus room that can be used by small teams. In the stairs there is another workstation with nice views on the woods to work quietly. Last but not least there is the garden house where we organise regular bbq's.
Why did you decide to open?
Cobana opened its doors to offer the possibility to escape the daily life to work on projects that shape tomorrow. This asks for discussion and collaboration and Cobana is therefore about meeting different professionals, sharing ideas, learning from each other, and offering a way to explore the world sustainably by moving slow.
How do you manage the community?
The owner hosts all the guests together with a host. Every week there is a house meeting to discuss the coming week in which at least one house dinner is organised. The rest of the activities depends on the interests of the community.
